The purpose of the exhibition is to increase understanding of what light is and how it affects our perception of the outside world. This we want to do by making available pioneering lighting projects, installations and artworks by 16 Nordic artists, designers,  architects and researchers – including Snøhetta, Finnish Vesa Honkonen, Norwegian Ellen Ruge, Swedish Svante Pettersson and Danish Astrid Krogh. Their projects are presented through large-scale installations in the exhibition hall itself and at Vandalorum’s inner courtyard. Several of the installations are created specifically for Vandalorum.

How are we affected by colours?

Does the colour of the room really affect our mood? And If so, is the effect universal?

Kokpunkten action pool

Most of us have colour preferences and we reflect those preferences in the clothes we wear, the colours of furniture, floors and walls in our homes. Interior designers love to tell us that the colour of our surroundings plays a big role in our emotions, our productivity and our personality type. And often they refer to research as the basis for these claims.

But what does science really say about how colours affect us? And do they have the same effect on all of us? Find out at Sciencenordic.com

Life in the age of the cyborgs

Neil Harbisson a Catalan-raised, British-born contemporary artist and cyborg activist best known for having an antenna implanted in his skull and for being officially recognized as a cyborg by a government, will attend the award ceremony of Prisad Färg 2015 Februari 10 2016 at the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair.

The antenna allows him to perceive visible and invisible colours such as infrareds and ultraviolets via sound waves. The antenna’s internet connection allows him to receive colors from space as well as images, videos, music or phone calls directly into his head via external devices such as mobile phones or satellites.

Harbisson identifies himself as a cyborg, he feels both his mind and body are united to cybernetics. He doesn’t feel he is using or wearing technology, instead he feels he is technology. His artworks investigate the relationship between colour and sound, experiment the boundaries of human perception and explore the use of artistic expression via sensory extensions.

Does art demand white walls?

Swedish Colour Centre Foundation Annual Meeting

When: 18 November at 5 pm
Where: NCS Colour AB, Igeldamsgatan 30, Stockholm
Notification: info@colourspot.org not later than November 14

Claes Moser, well-known antiques expert on the Antiques Roadshow on Swedish Television, will give a presentation on whether white is the best background for pictures.

”We must have white because we have so many paintings” – a very common argument for having to have white walls. Claes disagrees with the idea of allowing the walls to be white so that art should stand out more . Art thrives on a colourful background and right color point instead to the board. It will be a very colourful talk about how we can use colour and art to create harmony and atmosphere in a room.ClaesMoser2
